What To Do After a Dyslexia Diagnosis
Once you have obtained an official dyslexia diagnosis, you should begin intervention immediately using a tutor who is trained in using a science-based, multisensory, intensive tutoring approach such as the Orton-Gillingham approach. There is no quick or magic fix for dyslexia. It can take from one to three years to get a dyslexic child reading and spelling at grade level. Factors include the severity level, tutoring frequency, and other possible co-existing conditions such as ADHD.
The Orton-Gillingham intervention works because the brain has plasticity – the ability to adapt and reorganize neural pathways as a result of new experiences and learning. A dyslexia diagnosis does not mean your child will never learn to read or spell. Dyslexic students will benefit greatly from the right intervention!
“You don’t fix your child. You create the conditions for them to rise.”
